An 11-year-old Park Gate Primary School pupil cycled 15 miles around the Western Wards to raise cash in honour of a family friend battling against cancer.
Emily Pellatt, of Beacon Way, organised the cycle route through the Western Wards as a tribute to Cathryn Wyllie, 29, who has an incurable breast cancer and who suffered with acute myeloid leukaemia when she was 14 years old.
Emily has raised almost £160 so far for Cancer Research and decided the charity was fitting because her grandfather has recently started chemotherapy treatment for prostate cancer.
She said: “I organised it all myself and have been planning it for about five months.
“I’d already decided to do it for Cathryn because when I play with her daughter Bonnie I can see that Cathryn is in bed feeling ill. But then because granddad has cancer as well I decided to take it more seriously and plan the route more.
“I decided on Cancer Research because it would help people that have cancer to get more research to help them. Grandad is having treatment at the moment but the money could help other people too.”
Emily and her mum Carolyn, 44, pedalled from Swanwick railway station to Solent Breezes along the cliffs to Hill Head and back to the station in one hour and 55 minutes .
Carolyn added: “I’m very proud of her, she’s always thinking about other people.”
